As an alternative to glue, you can also try our self-adhesive magnets, magnetic tape or magnetic sheet.
- Thoroughly clean the surfaces.
- Roughen both surfaces.
- Fix the magnets in place.
- placing the magnet on top of the glued object. The gravity will help keep it in place
- using a clamp, pin, vise, or adhesive tape to hold the magnet
- placing another magnet or magnetic metal on the opposite side to secure it
- Do not use a hot glue gun.
- Follow the glue manufacturer's instructions.
Clean the surface of the magnet and the surface to be glued of any grease. This step is crucial. Even one touch with a greasy finger is enough to substantially reduce the strength of the bond. You can remove grease with isopropyl alcohol or acetone and a piece of cloth. Make sure both surfaces are dry before gluing.
Roughen the surface of the magnet with sandpaper or by making grooves with a nail. Doing both is the most effective approach.
While the glue dries, the magnet should be pushed towards the glued surface. You can achieve this by:
Make sure the magnet is not attracted away from the joint by other magnets or metal objects.
Standard hot melt glue melts at temperatures above 120 °C, but most of our magnets have a temperature resistance of only 80 °C. The magnets are therefore guaranteed to lose some of their magnetic force. However, if you are prepared to sacrifice some of the strength, hot melt glue usually bonds magnets firmly.
Glues usually do not include specific instructions for bonding magnets, but since our magnets are coated with nickel, you can follow the guidelines for bonding metals.
