How to calculate the minimum required hook pulling force?

1. Estimate how many kilograms the object hung on the hook will weigh.
2. If the hook is in a horizontal position, multiply the estimated weight by 6.
3. If the thickness of the magnetic metal surface is:
   • 0–0.5 mm, multiply the weight by 5
   • 0.5–1 mm, multiply the weight by 3
   • 1–2 mm, multiply the weight by 2
   • >2 mm, no need to multiply
4. If there will be a layer of paint on the metal surface, multiply the weight by 2.
5. Finally, multiply the resulting number by 3 for a safety margin.

Example

1. You need to hang an object weighing 0.3 kg on a metal surface with a thickness of 0.8 mm, the hook will be in a horizontal position, and there is a coating of paint on the metal surface. You need a magnet with a hook with a pulling force of at least:

0.3 kg × 6 × 3 × 2 × 3 = 32.4 kg
Recommended minimum pulling force of the magnetic hook = 32.4 kg

2. If you want to hang the same object vertically under the same conditions, a magnet will suffice with a pulling force of:

0.3 kg × 3 × 2 × 3 = 5.4 kg
Recommended minimum magnetic hook pulling force = 5.4 kg

Recommendation: If you are unsure about the thickness of the metal surface or its finish, it is wise to choose a stronger magnet to prevent the hook from coming loose.
