Product description
Magnetic mount with M3 screw hole. Unlike conventional neodymium magnets, which lose strength at temperatures above 80 °C, SmCo magnets have a temperature resistance of up to 300 °C.
The mount consists of a samarium-cobalt magnet (SmCo) and a steel cylinder that concentrates all the magnetic force into a small space on one side of the magnet. Thanks to this, the mount can hold even very heavy objects and is suitable as both a vertical and horizontal holder. Since all the magnetism is concentrated on the surface of the active side of the mount, the force drops off sharply with distance and the mounts have almost no effect on more distant objects. The back of the mount is not magnetic.
Under ideal conditions, a 16×5 mm samarium-cobalt mount can hold 3.5 kg of steel if it is at least 5 mm thick, touches the mount with its entire surface and hangs from it (i.e. the active side of the mount points vertically downwards and attracts the steel object upwards). Significantly less force is required to prise a metal object off a mount than to pull it off.
All mounts have the north pole on the active side (thus they repel each other).
