Cleaning narrow-neck containers with magnets
How to clean a jug, vase or bottle with a narrow neck? Commonly available cleaning brushes or sponges won’t fit through the hole. Magnet cleaning is the solution. The magic of magnetic power will help you with cleaning.
What do you need?
- 2 stronger magnets (we used Neodymium magnet, block, 20x20x5 mm and Magnetic hook, Ø 32 mm)
ATTENTION: the magnet inserted inside the bottle must fit through the narrow neck!
TIP: select the strength of the magnets based on how dirty the container is. The stronger the magnet, the more force is available for the sponge to scrub the inside of the container. - dish sponge
- paring knife or scissors to make a hole in the sponge
- stapler to keep the magnet from falling out of the sponge
- ordinary dish detergent
- optional: gauze to avoid scratching the surface of the container with strong magnets
Cleaning procedure:
- Using scissors or a paring knife, make a hole in the dish sponge. It needs to be bigger than the magnet you will be putting in the sponge.
- Insert the magnet into the sponge.
- Staple the hole to keep the magnet secure in the sponge during cleaning.
- Soak the container, add detergent to the sponge and push it through the neck of the container to the bottom.
- Wrap the second, stronger magnet (ideally with a hook for easy holding during cleaning) in gauze to keep from scratching the surface of the container.
- Lift the container and place the outer magnet up to the sponge at the container bottom.
- Once the sponge has been attracted, clean the container by smoothly moving the outer magnet over the body of the container.
- Once you have cleaned the container, using a long object – e.g. a kitchen spoon – pull the sponge out of the container and rinse the container.
