Turning wooden furniture into a magnetic bulletin board?
Looking for a way to keep all your important notes, children’s drawings or calendar in sight? You don’t need a bulletin board from the shop. Turn an ordinary wooden door into a practical magnetic bulletin board! You can custom-make your own to fit just where you need it. Even on wooden cabinet doors.
This simple and creative modification will brighten up your interior and add a functional element.

What will you need?
- a tape measure
- a pencil/pen
- a drill with a drill bit of the same diameter as the magnet diameter
- screw hole cover stickers
- magnets (back side of the door) – we used neodymium discs with dimensions 10×5 mm
- office magnets (for attaching papers) – we used steel magnets
- photos, calendar, notes

How to do it?
- Plan your bulletin board dimensions
Decide how large the bulletin board should be and what will be hung on it. How many holes for magnets and at what distances need to be drilled will depend on this. Using a tape measure and a pencil, mark the position of the future holes for the magnets on the inside of the door.
- Perform an attraction test
Before drilling, we recommend testing the magnetic attraction so you know how deep into the board you need to drill. Insert a piece of plastic, wood, or cardboard between the magnet and the office magnet. If the magnets are attract to each other at least enough to hold A4 paper, that’s the right board thickness between them. If they are attracted too weakly, it means they need to be closer together.
- Drill holes
Now it’s time to drill the holes. We recommend using a drill bit matching the diameter of the magnets you will be inserting into the holes. This way, the magnets will fit snugly into the holes without the need for glue. But be careful not to drill through the door. Simply blow away the sawdust from the drilling.
- Mount the magnets
Insert the magnets into the prepared holes. Make sure that the magnets are oriented correctly (north and south poles) so that they do not repel each other. Magnets can be secured without gluing if they are accurately mounted.
- Stick on the rear caps
Place the screw hole cover stickers on the back of the door to cover the holes and make the surface smooth.
- The bulletin board is ready
Attach your notes, photos or drawings to the front with office magnets. Your magnetic bulletin board is ready to use!
