Thirteen creative ideas for using magnets

Try the following 13 tips for using magnets around the home.

Screws and nails at hand

Put a magnet and screws and nails in your pocket and you’ll always have them at hand. Or stick the magnets with magnet glue directly to the tool you are using.

Magnetize the screwdriver

All you need is a very small neodymium magnet and the screws will hold tighter than an original magnetic screwdriver!

Cable holder

Are cables constantly falling off your desk and you have to pick them up?

Lace a pen spring around each cable and glue neodymium magnets to the edge of the table. You can now place one cable on each magnet. Cables will never get tangled and you always have them at hand.

Self-adhesive magnets are ideal for this purpose.

Clean the inside of the bottle

Strong magnets help you clean glass jars and bottles with a narrow neck. Cut a hole in a sponge, insert into it a strong magnet, tape or staple closed, and toss it in the bottle.

Thanks to the enormous power of the neodymium magnets, you can thoroughly scrub the bottle from the inside. You can also clean an aquarium or a window from the outside.

Curtain ribbons

Glue magnets to the ends of a ribbon, which you can hide under a decoration, for example, the flowers in the picture. Then just wrap the ribbon around the curtain and connect the magnets together. It’s easier than tying a knot.

Hang tools on the wall

Just stick the magnets to the wall with strong glue and you can store your tools on it in the garage. Or create a magnetic knife holder.

When the magnet is in direct contact with the tool, a disc magnet of 10×5 mm or a disc of 15×5 mm is sufficient. If there is wood between the knives and the magnets as in the picture, you need a significantly stronger magnet. For example , a 25×5 disc or a 25x25x5 block.

Save kitchen space

Glue the magnets to a horizontal surface from below. You can put glasses and bottles with metal lids on them. Magnets stuck to the top of the fridge not only save space, but also allow you to take the bottles out without having to turn them over. Sparkling drinks then foam less.

Keys on a switch

The choice of magnet depends on the shape of the switch. The bigger the magnet it can fit, the better. A 10x4x2 mm magnet should fit most switches.

Magnetic bottle opener

You don’t have to make the opener yourself, you can order it straight away, for example, at magsy.sk.

Place one or two 25×5 mm disc magnets in the back of the wooden board. Attach a wall-mounted bottle opener to the top, it can be bought in food stores, for example here. The magnet will attract all falling lids to itself.

If you also place one strong magnet on the top of the opener, you can simply put the whole thing on the fridge.

Find treasures in the river

Tie a rope to an extra strong magnet for magnet fishing. With a magnet, you can pull coins, metal tools, fishing gear, mobile phones, cameras or even a shopping basket, an iron bust or a weapon from World War II out of the river.

Pick up scattered pins

Picking up metal objects in this way is very satisfying.

A 20×10 mm disc magnet will suffice for small paper clips and pins. For larger pieces of metal, you will achieve the best effect when using a neodymium cube 50x50x25 millimetres. This magnet will attract pins even from a long distance.
